Chappell Elementary photo by: Eric Rojas
You’ve probably seen some of the hubbub in the media lately about schools closings coming for some Chicago public schools. Our own Chappell Elementary is proposed to be a “welcoming” school for some of the students currently attending Trumbull Elementary (located at Foster and Ashland). Although Mayor Emanuel has stated that the proposed closings are more or less a done deal, CPS is still holding public meetings for parents, teachers, and community members to comment. Whether you support the closing plan, oppose it, or just want to check out all the commotion for yourself, you can do so at Amundsen High School. Hearings for Trumbull (and by extension, Chappell) are scheduled for Tuesday April 9 and Friday April 12, at 5pm. Details are available from DNAinfo, Patch, or CPS itself.
If you’re not interested, you might want to steer clear of Amundsen during the evenings next week — community meetings for school closings around the north side are being held there back-to-back all week long, and things are likely to get boisterous, to put it kindly.
